Apothecary - Leeches
Leech Jar was used to store leeches used to 'suck out the disease'. Notice the holes around the top of the jar so the leeches can breathe.
This jar is handpainted using underglazes on porcelain. The design is consistent with those found on 19th century apothecary jars. The terminology used is what would have been found on apothecary jars of the era.
Size: 7/8" (23mm) tall by 7/8" (23mm) wide at handles.
